Practice Makes Perfect

Hey guys!
It’s been such a long time since the last time I’ve posted, and to be honest... I feel like soooo much to tell, yet so difficult to put it straight. Haha.

Things have been so good lately. This year’s Ramadhan has reached its 15th, which so far so good. College life is going fine as well, though I am still in the middle of waiting for the grade and the whole scoring results. Dorm life is also very smooth. Things at home are, too, pretty much of an enjoyment.

Anyway...

I was in the middle of an ordinary online chat with a good friend, when he, out of the blue, ask me a question. I realize that this was not the first time I encountered such question, not only from him, but from many other people, and this blog is the perfect place to answer it permanently.

“How come you have a good English?”, “Can you teach me English?”, “Please share your tips to learn English.”

This is the answer: PRACTICE.

Practice makes you perfect. This is what I believe. Just be determine, have faith, man jadda wajada. When you have the biggest determination, you’ll get it somehow. And don’t get distracted, ever.

Maybe it sounded cliché, but somehow true. Learning language is about talking, using them on a daily basis, getting familiar with them. Especially with the growing significance of English, the stakes are high if you don’t expose yourself to it.

Nevertheless, many of my friends who share keep going about how difficult it is to find a sharing partner to have English conversation. But don’t make this situation constrains you. You can always find someone—I always welcome you, call me, approach me, to talk in (and on) English.

Or even if that’s the case, just practice in front of the mirror, talk to yourself. You always have yourself to talk to. Like, come on, don’t tell me you never talk to yourself. It has a positive psychological impact after all.

One more thing. I also get pretty much complain about how my friends are getting mocked at when try using English. You know what, people will judge you as “smartass”, “always go at it”, and “the know-it-all”, but take it as a motivation. It means that you are in the middle of something not all people have the courage to afford.

I know you can do it, because I know your capability. At least people who share with me about their problems learning English, when I have a conversation with them on English, they have a pretty good “raw” material already, i.e they read pretty good, understand the meaning of a text—and hey, you understand the writing on this post, right? Else, you won’t be able to get this far—but once they talk, they have difficulties with the fluency.

Many of my friends also ask me where I took English course. Here I tell you, since I went to a pretty popular course, and most of them who blabber to me about their difficulty in learning English also went to the same course, I don’t find that English course is much of a help if your don’t help yourself. Wherever you learn English, in the most expensive, most significant course center, if you don’t re-practice on your own and solely rely on the material given by the course, you’ll just waste your money for nothing. On the contrary, if you learn in an ordinary center, or even just ask a friend to help you learn English, if you keep practicing, you’ll improve. Because once again, we are talking about language, and language need familiarization.

There is also some people that learn English through lyrics, movie subtitles, or books. Go for it. Suit yourself. Find your best method.

All in all, this post is dedicated for everyone who are willing to learn English. Contact me if you want, you can always share.

Keep practicing! :)

NB: Let’s pray for Gaza. Alfaatihah.
